Garbage TruckYou can call it garbage, trash, refuse, or solid waste. Its all the same thing, and getting rid of it has been a problem since the beginning of civilization. The earliest method of getting rid of garbage consisted of simply throwing it in a pile. As the population of an area grew, so did the need to move the garbage pile further and further away. In 500 B.C. , the Greek city of Athens established the first municipal dump in the Western world when it required that garbage be disposed of at least one mile (1.6 km) from the city walls. Other cities were not so advanced. For example, in 1400, garbage had piled up so high outside the gates of Paris, France, that it interfered with the citys defenses. The first vehicles for hauling garbage were probably two-wheeled carts drawn by animals or slaves. In the 1800s horse-drawn, four-wheeled wagons moved slowly down alleyways as garbagemen hoisted reeking barrels filled with wet garbage and dumped them into the open wagon bed. By the 1920s, motor power had replaced horse power, but little else had changed. The cry of Here comes the garbage truck was still the signal to go inside and close your windows. The postwar consumer boom of the 1950s in the United States led to a significant increase in trash. After years of restrictions and shortages during World War II, people eagerly replaced old products with new ones. Many of the new products were meant to be used once and thrown away. Paper plates, plastic cups, paper towels and napkins, disposable diapers, and brown paper lunch bags all clogged the trash cans. The refuse vehicle industry responded in the late 1950s with the development of the first enclosed refuse trucks, utilizing hydraulic rams to compress the trash as it was collected. This allowed each truck to carry more trash per load.
AMERICAN FORK — Lets talk trash. Garbage bins will be at American Forks Art Dye Complex for trash collected during spring cleaning. Garbage can be dumped every day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. All garbage must be placed inside the garbage bins. Items not permitted include tires, construction materials, toxic wastes and large appliances.

Dr. Rodney P. Steffen had been a dentist for four years in the U.S. Air Force when he opened a private dental practice in 1987 in Oklahoma City. He had a practice by himself until Dr. Kathy DeHart joined the practice in 1990. Steffen knew it made economic sense for more than one dentist to be operating out of one building. “Two dentists can work in a building and pay the same rent as one dentist,” he said. So Steffen put that knowledge to use in his practice. That one-dentist practice Steffen started 1987 has now expanded Community Dental Health Centers to three locations and 12 dentists, with a fourth location scheduled to open in mid-August in Moore.

AquaGuard Waterproofing announced today that
John Bryant, general manager of AquaGuard Waterproofing, was recently
recognized with the certified waterproofing specialist (CWS), a national
certification honor of excellence from the National Association of
Waterproofing and Structural Repair (NAWSRC).

As a national association representing contractors across the country,
NAWSRCs focus is on enhancing professional conduct, continuing education
and training, and the fair and ethical treatment of consumers throughout
the industry. NAWSRC certification of professional waterproofing and
structural repair contractors serves as the associations recognition of
professionals who have met stringent criteria for experience, and have
pledged a commitment to high standards of practice and NAWSRCs Code of
Ethics.

To earn the associations top accreditation, candidates undergo rigorous
training and testing in various technical areas, such as safety, soil
conditions, and ethics. To maintain the certification, specialists are
required to attend 15 hours of continuing professional education every two
years.

“We felt the NAWSRC certification was important in demonstrating our
commitment to project quality, professionalism, and complete customer
satisfaction,” said Jon Siegel, Vice President of AquaGuard Waterproofing.
“In an environment where waterproofing contractors do not have strict
guidelines, this certification from NAWSRC gives our customers the
assurance that they are working with a certified professional in the
industry.”

John Bryants expertise is in technical training, structural repair,
installation, and new product development for the company. He is a graduate
of Towson State University and has over 19 years of waterproofing
experience. He lives in Sykesville, MD.

Precoating with silica facilitates the application of a waterproofing final coat. Amen Research Center, Moffett Field, California An improved process for waterproof ing ceramic materials - especially lightweight ceramic insulation materials in both rigid (tile) and flexible (blanket) form - has been invented. In this process, traditional waterproof ing agents are used, but before the waterproofing agents are applied, the ceramic substrates are first coated with thin layers of silica, as explained below. As used here, “waterproofing” of ceramics means rendering them water-repellent, not making them impervious. In situations in which ceramics are exposed to water, the need for waterproofing arises as follows: These materials are very porous (void volumes exceed 90 percent in some cases) . They are also hygroscopic - typically capable of absorbing three to five times their own weight of water. Water can thus add undesirably to the weight of these materials. These materials can also be damaged by explosive vaporization of trapped water during rapid heating, and by the anomalous expansion and contraction of trapped water during freezing and thawing. Thus, what is needed is a means to reduce the intrusion of water to minimize these deleterious effects. The traditional waterproofing agents preferred for this purpose are silanes, substituted silanes, silazanes, and mixtures of these. These agents can be applied easily to silica ceramics, but cannot be applied easily to other (e.g., alumina) ceramics. The present invention is based on the discovery that even a difficult-to-coat ceramic can easily be coated with a traditional silicon-containing waterproofing agent, provided that it is first coated with a thin layer of silica. “Coated as used here does not mean covered on the exterior macroscopic surface; it means covered on all microscopic exterior and interior pore surfaces and interstices.
In this article, my objective is to outline the two most important design issues relating to these structures: selection of the construction technique and structural design selection and detailing of the waterproofing system. Although structure and waterproofing imply two separate design issues, they should be regarded as one issue, as the type and design of the structure can influence the waterproofing technique and vice versa. Strictly speaking, waterproofing should more correctly be referred to as water-resistance - as should all categories of structural waterproofing, including the membrane or active types, and concrete, in particular. The structure alone or in combination with additional waterproofing system can provide all or part of controlling water ingress and this will influence the level of water-resistance achieved. This is analogous to an electrical resistor, as the amount of resistance will depend on the constituent parts but may break down should an element prove faulty. The essence of good design is to achieve a level of water-resistance that is adequate for the uses of the basement and site conditions. The solution should be practical and consideration should be given to the maintenance level required. This is unlikely to be fully achieved unless both the construction form, including structural design and detailing, and the waterproofing system (if any), including its details, are assessed together. It is also important to consider the problem in three dimensions, rather than a two-dimensional exercise on paper. The three critical issues are: choice, design and detailing of the structure

They enjoy camping, attending tailgate parties and just relaxing as they soak up the sun. Julia and DeeEarl Vaden of Las Vegas say their sleek and spacious recreation vehicle (RV) is like a second home. Its a place where happy memories are made amid the great outdoors. Kenneth Kelly of Atlanta says his gleaming recreation vehicle is a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and explore the outdoors, along with his wife, Kimberly, and their two children. He says traveling in his recreational vehicle is a great way to meet people and form lasting friendships with fellow travelers at campgrounds that cater to users of the specialized vehicles. “I enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of recreation-vehicle travel,” says Kelly, 38, a sales manager for a major utility company in Atlanta. “Its also a great way to enjoy nature. Last Christmas, we went to Pine Mountain, Ga. It was a nature lovers dream.” The three families are part of the growing number of African-Americans who are traveling by recreation vehicle, a pastime that used to be a province of the White middle-class, according to the National African-American Rvers Association (NAARVA) and the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association. As African-Americans increasingly join the ranks of the middle-class and baby boomers begin to retire, Blacks have more leisure time and money to devote to hobbies and activities such as traveling.

June 27th, 2009

Read press releases distributed by Market Wire, including company news and finanical updates
Methyl bromide is extremely valuable for fumigating soils and controlling pests and diseases, unfortunately it may also deplete the ozone layerMethyl bromide (MeBr) is used as a fumigant to disinfest stored products, soil and fresh commodities and to comply with quarantine regulations as laid down by different governments. Its insecticidal properties were first reported in 1932,|1~ but it was mostly used as a fire depressant until after World War II. At that time a number of other fumigants were used, such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN), ethylene oxide and the liquid fumigants carbon tetrachloride, ethylene dichloride and ethylene dibromide. Later, phosphine generated from metal phosphides entered the arena for fumigation purposes. Apart from HCN and phosphine, the other compounds have now all been withdrawn on health and safety grounds. Today HCN is in use only for a very limited number of applications while phosphine is used mainly on grain, dried fruit, nuts, legumes and tobacco. In contrast, MeBr is used for the fumigation of a very wide range of products and materials in a variety of situations against insects, mites, nematodes, bacteria, fungi and vertebrates.|2~An estimated 66,000t/a of MeBr is sold internationally. Of the 19,000t in Europe, use in the UK is no more than 600t. The first use of MeBr as a soil fumigant was in the US in 1954. Europe followed on during the 1960s. in the Netherlands from 1963, Italy from 1964 and the UK from 1968. Now about 80% of the total MeBr usage is on soil. In England and Wales. out of 2000ha of soil under glass, about 430ha use hydroponic techniques for producing salad crops. Much of the remaining area is treated with MeBr once a year or each alternate year. Fumigations are carried out under polythene sheets for soil treatment and under gas-proof sheets or in fumigation chambers for other commodities.|3~ For quarantine of incoming or outgoing goods, MeBr fumigations are also conducted in barges (for timber, bark and grain) and in containers.

ABSTRACT A survey of 124 students in computer applications classes was conducted to determine students perceptions of computer learning in the following areas: promptness, listening, computer obsession, computer anxiety, anger, frustration, enjoyment of computers, importance of computer knowledge, and relative importance of computer skills and people skills. Results indicated that there were behavior problems involving promptness, listening, obsession, computer anxiety, anger, and frustration in the classroom. However, a majority of the students enjoyed working with computers. Additionally, they agreed that computer knowledge will be useful to them in the future; and most agreed that people skills and computer skills are equally important. Keywords: Computer Behavior, Education, Behavior Improvement. Learning computer skills is no longer valuable only for students majoring in computer-related fields. All individuals in our society need computer skills to function successfully in their personal and professional lives. Despite the widespread use of technology in all parts of our society, the literature often reports high levels of anxiety and negative attitudes about using computers. Additionally, computer obsession, human interaction, and enjoyment of computers are other variables that must be understood. Studying computer behavior in learning environments and understanding the variables that affect computer behaviors will assist educators in developing appropriate learning strategies for improving learning and behaviors.

ROCHESTER, Mich. — A breakthrough survey conducted by Foresight Research quantifies the
automotive sales impact of print articles and print advertising. Then it
compares print articles and print advertising influence to other forms
of marketing communications used by auto buyers.

The study shows that the majority of vehicle buyers (62%) are influenced
to some degree by print articles, and 45% are influenced to some degree
by print advertising. 19% said print articles were a primary or secondary
purchase influence, and 8% reported that print advertising was a primary
or secondary influence.
“We also noted the influence by vehicle brand purchased and found that
BMW, Cadillac, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Hyundai and Mazda lead the brands
in terms of impact from print articles. Then we looked at the print
advertising side and many of the same brands appear. The reason is that
buyers are paying attention to both the articles and the ads,” says
Steve Bruyn, CEO of Foresight Research.

So, what are the most influential publications? Consumer Reports and
newspapers are widely influential but so are some of the automotive
publications like – Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile Magazine,
Road and Track and Autoweek. “This study proves that print publications
still play a role in this electronic era,” stated Bruyn.

LOS GATOS, Calif. — Greg Baker has joined Asante Real Estate Group, Inc. as the Vice President of Real Estate Operations. Prior to joining Asante Real Estate, Mr. Baker was a highly successful Broker Manager with Coldwell Banker, and is a recognized expert in real estate sales and operations. As the Vice President of Real Estate Operations, Mr. Baker will manage all aspects of real estate operations, provide strategic solutions to help our agents meet our clients needs, mentor Asante real estate agents and build a world-class real estate team for Asante Real Estate Group, Inc. in Los Gatos. Asante Real Estate Group is a Full-Service Real Estate Company that is massively reducing the high cost of buying and selling real estate by selling homes with Full-Service at a Fair Price. Specifically, Asante Real Estate lists homes and other real estate for only 1% of the total purchase price (plus the buyers agents commission), and credit buyers who find their home with up to 66% of our commission. In contrast, many real estate companies charge a Full-Price commission equal to 6% of the total price of a home. When Asante lists your home, you will save up to $20,000 to $40,000 in real estate commissions for the sale of a $1M home. Asante also gives home buyers up to 2/3 of our buyers agents commission when they find their own home - for the purchase of an $800K home, the buyer will receive up to $16,000 after close of escrow. In the midst of this unsettled housing market, Asantes Full-Service at a Fair Price value propositions ensure that home buyers and sellers end up with more money when they close escrow - that is Full-Service at a Fair Price!

SAN DIEGO — New Jersey recently enacted life-settlement provider licensing requirements, and Life Settlement Solutions Inc., one of the nations premier sources of life-settlement funding, was among the first life-settlement providers to receive a license under the law. New Jersey issued Life Settlement Solutions viatical (life) settlement provider license Jan. 2, 2007. Life Settlement Solutions has done business in New Jersey since 2003, prior to life settlement transactions being regulated in that state. The state expanded its viatical settlement laws to include life settlements, effective Dec. 21, 2005. Prior to the enactment of the 2005 legislation, life-settlement companies were allowed to conduct business in the state without licensing requirements. The new law provided for a transitional provision that permitted life-settlement providers previously conducting life settlements in the state to continue doing so while their license applications were pending, so long as the application was filed within 30 days following the effective date of the act. Life Settlement Solutions application was filed within that 30-day period, so there has been no interruption in its doing business in New Jersey. “The issuance of Life Settlement Solutions license in New Jersey is significant because it recognizes our company as officially approved by the states division of insurance as a formally licensed settlement provider,” said Larry Simon, president and founder of Life Settlement Solutions Inc. “We are proud of our history of licensing approvals throughout the country, and our unblemished regulatory and compliance track record. We are very pleased to be among the first life-settlement companies to obtain such licensing in New Jersey.”
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Peachtree Settlement Funding is proud to announce it has exceeded the two billion dollar mark in committed financing. This accomplishment further substantiates Peachtrees continued growth and strong financial support from the capital markets. Founded in 1996, Peachtree Settlement Funding is a leader in the specialty factoring industry. Peachtree acquires a wide-range of financial assets such as Structured Legal Settlements, Lottery Receivables, Life Settlements, Tobacco Funding and other types of deferred payment obligations. This latest development is the result of a new $225 million Life Settlement credit facility. Peachtree Life Settlements, a division of Peachtree Settlement Funding, is a leader in the Life Settlement industry. Peachtree Life Settlements purchases life insurance policies from individuals, typically over the age of 65, who may no longer want or need their policies or are unable to afford their policy. Last September Peachtree passed the one billion dollar mark in committed financing. That milestone took seven years. Now, a mere seven months later, Peachtree has passed the two billion dollar mark. Peachtrees Chief Executive Officer, James Terlizzi, commented, “Im extremely proud of our achievements and our continued growth. Our dedication and hard work made reaching this second milestone possible.” Mr. Terlizzi further stated, “In the coming months Peachtree plans to introduce several new initiatives as we continue to reach untapped financial assets.”

Instrument Business Outlook is a publication providing coverage and analysis of the manufacturing industries.
In the October and December 1998 columns, we discussed programmable mixers; special functions that allow you to specify how a defined control input automatically produces a change in a second, unrelated control function. As an example, we used aileron -> rudder mixing, which automatically produces rudder motion whenever the aileron stick is moved. Its useful for making smooth, coordinated turns at low speeds. So far, weve talked about mixing functions as applied to centering functions such as ailerons, elevator and rudder (when I say self-centering, I mean that when you let go of the control stick, it returns to the center position; so center is the neutral position). But there is no reason that we cannot use mixers with non– centering functions such as throttle or flaps. This month, well discuss some interesting applications of programmable mixing to models with flaps. These days, many airplanes have flaps (flaps are movable surfaces inboard of the ailerons, and often-but not always-only drop downward). Scale jobs have flaps if their full-size counterparts do; ducted fans have flaps for better takeoffs and steeper, more predictable descents. Fun-fly ships may have flaps for enhanced maneuverability, and gliders use flaps and ailerons to increase launch and cruise performance. Computer radios allow you to take maximum advantage of flaps in all of these cases. Most computer radios today have sticks for the four primary controls (aileron, elevator, rudder and throttle), a toggle switch for retractable landing gear, and either sliders or rotary knobs for “auxiliary” controls, which are used for flaps or spoilers. The knobs turn a little too easily; they are difficult to position precisely, and this makes it difficult to command the desired amount of flaps. I receive many questions about a relatively straightforward topic: “How can I program my radio so that when I flip a switch, the flaps drop a certain amount?”
STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb. 20, 1996–Citizens Telecom announced today the companys plans to consolidate call and service centers. The plans affect centers in Johnstown and Middletown, NY; Masontown, WV; Colusa, CA.; and Myrtle Creek, OR.Under the plan, call center functions — billing inquiry, service orders, payment arrangements, and other off-line customer service support functions — will be consolidated into centers in Johnstown, NY; Dallas, and a yet-to-be-determined site in a western time zone. Currently these functions are completed in eight different locations. Service center functions — repair answer, test, and dispatch activities — will be consolidated into centers in Sherburne, NY and Elk Grove, CA. Currently these functions are completed in six different locations.”Citizens Telecom has grown rapidly due to several large acquisitions. The consolidation of duplicate or overlapping functions between Citizens Telecom and the former GTE and ALLTEL organizations that were acquired is an important and necessary part of the overall integration process,” said Ronald E. Spears, Vice President, Telecommunications of Citizens Utilities and head of Citizens Telecom.”The consolidations are part of a nation-wide restructuring by Citizens Telecom to reflect the realities of a newly competitive marketplace. In addition to the consolidation of work functions, the company is converting the information systems for each acquired system to a common platform,” said Spears.
